You
don’t need to believe it in. The sun doesn’t need you to believe in it as it rises,
shines and sets. The melting snowcaps don't care if you believe in it. It will continue to creep in higher along coastlines. Just remember that you are one of the teeniest,
tiniest organisms on this planet, a suspended blue dot in the black universe. Your
entire presence on this planet is just less than a second on this planet’s
history.
Seriously,
every insignificant organism has a critical role on this planet to maintain the
balance of the wonderful ecosystem that has evolved over millions of years. As
science, industry and technology grows, we have changed how we were meant to
live. We went off the intended course and confused everything.
That’s
fine if you only believe in the here and now. The future and the past do not
worry you. But tell me, is there no reason not to care right now? Isn’t clean air important? Isn’t safe
drinking water important? Isn’t being able to provide food and nourishment for
planet important? This is about being aware of the environment and respecting
it.
In
the 1970’s, we grew up with PSA’s as the “Crying Indian” commercial
and “Give a Hoot, Don’t
Pollute”. They put fines on those who threw trash out of the car windows,
instilled trash receptacles, and other measures to help clean the environment. In
the 1980’s and 1990’s, recycling became our mantra. People began to care about maintenance
of highways and lands.
I know Americans tend to focus on their own belly buttons, and not even be aware of how the global community addresses climate change.I recently watched Years of Living Dangerously on National Geographic and it's amazing to see country like India take control of solar energy. In Europe, they look at the changes to be an opportunity for growth and efficiency. However, in the US, the prevalent attitude towards the recognition of climate change is as economic constraints, shackles.

However, if every major country can recognize and
support scientific research, then why can’t America? There’s no shame in being
educated and having experts in a field. Take out the noise of the conspiracy
theorists. Liberal research institutions are not touting global climate change
as a way to get more money.
Scientists do not benefit from the destruction of the planet. In fact, it makes everyone's lives more difficult. But wait, then what do American politicians tell the oil
and energy companies that feel threatened by alternative methods?
Gravity
doesn’t need you to believe in it. Again, it will do its job to hold the planet
together. If you’re so adamant about your beliefs, please go ahead and defy
gravity. Take a leap from your roof. Gravity will still work. You may not.
